Philippians 2:1-11
Many Christian men want to lead their wives spiritually; Many Christian women want to be led spiritually by their husbands, however, it seems both are not sure what this looks like. Often times, what can result is a chaotic mess of unmet expectations.

Psalm 127
There is a simple truth to the fact that so much of what goes on in our relational world happens in the home. Sometimes I am left wondering, “what are the homes we are actually building?” I also wonder if, at the end of the day, men and women get excited about being “homeward bound”. Is it possible, that over time we could grow weary of the simple pleasures that our homes bring, let alone the people who occupy them? Psalm 127 is well known and highlights that life itself is pointless unless the Lord is the builder. In the psalm, the psalmist declares the anxiety of life without God.

2 Peter 1:3-11
Character is what defines you, character is what people see in you. It is what people will say about you after you pass away. Character is one of the most important things you have. When you read the things that men and women value in each other, it is character always matters in the end. Peter, as he writes, is reminding people that God has given us the power to live godly lives. While we are always a work in progress (Phil 1:6) we should always be seeking greater spiritual maturity.

James 3:1-12
Proper speech. Do we ever get it right? Especially in our relationships. I cannot think of a finer passage that captures the pain that has been expressed from our people when it comes to the way we speak to each other. Often we might think if only I could take it back. The tongue is small yet it controls so much. Yes, we can praise God with it and curse God with it. Yes, we can say we love you and at the same time, we can say incredibly hurtful things. We can come to church, praise our great God and then on the way home criticise our wives or husbands. James says it directly, “This should not be” (v10).

Colossians 2:6-23
Paul says, “as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him”. If we are going to swim against the tide we must ensure that we are focused on Christ. The world wants us to ignore what we know and live a distracted life. Paul warned the Colossians against the additions they were being encouraged to make to their faith in Christ, such as philosophy, legalism, mysticism and asceticism. These can add nothing to what they already have.

Psalm 51
This message captures many of the thoughts and feelings that have been expressed, especially by men. Psalm 51 is a standout word, which speaks of confession and repentance from personal sin. What David is seeking, and I sense that many men are seeking, is to ask God to “blot out”, “wash away” and be “cleansed” (vs1-2). What David does is provide a list of wrongs that is meant to be comprehensive. His confession was far-reaching and complete. What God is seeking from all of us is transparency in our lives. Women are also asking this from their men.
